Teleprompter text cut off at the edges
Lines that run off the screen, or disappear behind the hood, make you lose your place mid-sentence. Usually it's margins, text size or the hood, and each takes seconds to fix.
Step by step: set up a glass teleprompter rig
- Lay the screen under the glass. Put your phone or tablet face up in the tray, under the angled glass. The camera sits behind the glass and films straight through it.
- Pick your rig in Reframely. Open the sliders and choose Your rig. Tablet or Phone in a glass rig mirrors the text, so it reads the right way round in the glass.
- Turn the brightness all the way up. Beam-splitter glass passes only part of the light, so the reflection is dimmer than the screen. Full brightness and a darker room keep the words crisp.
- Check it through the camera. Look at the camera’s screen, not the tablet. If the hood’s edge shows in a wide shot, zoom in a little or widen the side margins. Then pair a clicker or your phone and press play.
Common causes
- No side margins. Text runs to the edge of the screen, and the hood or frame covers the first and last letters. Neewer app users report text cut off at the edges and ask for adjustable margins (JustUseApp).
- Text too large for the screen. Long words don't fit and get clipped instead of wrapping.
- Orientation changes. Rotating the device mid-session reflows the text and can lose your place.
- Reading line in the wrong spot. The line you read sits behind the hood edge instead of in front of the lens.
Fix it in Reframely
- Tap the sliders icon and drag Side margins until no letters touch the hood edges.
- Use A− until every line has a few words of space, or choose a narrower font such as System.
- Drag Reading line so the highlighted band sits in front of your lens.
- Rotate freely: Reframely reflows the text and keeps your position in the script.
Or pick your setup under Your rig, which sets margins and size for that kind of rig in one tap.
Check through the camera, not the screen
What you see on the tablet isn't what you see in the glass. Stand where you'll read from and look at the reflection: if any letters touch the hood edge, widen the margins. Then look through the camera to make sure the hood isn't in the shot. Fixing one shouldn't break the other.
Portrait or landscape?
- Landscape: more words per line, fewer line breaks. Best for most tablet rigs.
- Portrait: narrower lines and more lines visible. Good for phones and for reading under a webcam.
Choose before you start and lock the screen rotation, so the device doesn't reflow the text if it's nudged mid-take.
Text cut off at the top or bottom
If the first or last lines are hidden rather than the sides, the reading line is too close to the edge of the visible area. Move the reading line in Display settings until the highlighted band sits in front of the lens, with a few lines visible above and below it.
Questions
Why is my teleprompter text cut off?
Most often there are no side margins, so the hood covers the edges, or the text is too large to wrap. Add margins and reduce the size.
Does rotating the screen lose my place?
Not in Reframely. It keeps the same position in the script when the layout changes.
