A teleprompter for OBS and live streaming

Streams have intros, sponsor reads and segments you want to get word-perfect. Reframely can sit next to your webcam where only you see it, or go into OBS as a browser source that scrolls in sync with your prompter.

0:00 / 0:16 2 steps

Step by step: send the prompter to OBS or a second screen

  1. Open the output. In Display, choose Second screen / OBS. It opens a clean window with just the words, no buttons.
  2. Add it in OBS. Add the output link as a Browser Source, or drag the window to a monitor on your rig. It follows the prompter word for word.

Pick how you want to use it

You want toUseShown on stream?
Read a script yourself while streamingThe prompter or its output in its own window under your webcamNo, if OBS captures windows rather than your whole display
Read through glass in front of a cameraA tablet in a glass rig, or the output mirrored on a monitor under the glassNo
Show the words to viewers (read-alongs, lyrics, readings)The output link as an OBS Browser sourceYes, on purpose

Add Reframely to OBS as a browser source

  1. Open Reframely on the device you'll run it from and tap Open prompter.
  2. Open the pairing sheet (the code chip at the top) or the Display menu and choose Second screen or OBS.
  3. Pick a background. Transparent needs no filter; Green or Blue work with a Chroma Key filter; Black works with a Luma Key or as a full-screen card.
  4. Tap Copy link. In OBS, under Sources, click +, choose Browser and paste the link into URL. Set the width and height to your canvas, such as 1920 × 1080.
  5. Leave Shutdown source when not visible off, so the output stays connected when you switch scenes.
  6. Play, pause and change speed from the prompter, your phone remote or a Stream Deck key. The OBS source follows.

The output keeps its own text size and colors, and it tracks the prompter by word rather than by percentage, so a 1080p browser source and a phone screen stay on the same line even though they wrap differently. Between updates it keeps scrolling at your set speed, so it stays smooth even when the connection has to go through relays.

The same link works in other apps with a browser or web source, such as Streamlabs Desktop and vMix. The Stagetimer team's guide to OBS browser sources has more on keying and blending modes (Stagetimer).

Keep the script off your stream

Most streamers read a script without viewers seeing it. Some Windows apps hide their window from capture entirely (Product Hunt); a web page can't do that, so set up OBS to capture only what you choose:

  • Use Window Capture or Game Capture for what you show, not Display Capture of the monitor the script is on.
  • Put the prompter or its output window on a second monitor, or in a narrow window right under your webcam so your eyes stay near the lens.
  • Share your screen with a window or tab, never the whole screen, when you go into a call or co-stream.

The output link contains your private pairing key. Anyone who has it can see your script, so don't show the link on stream. To cut off an old link, make a new code in the pairing sheet.

Script tips for live

  • Split the show into sections with # Intro, # Sponsor, # Outro lines, then jump between them from your phone remote.
  • Keep live reads short and conversational, and mark must-say lines such as promo codes with a cue like [SAY CLEARLY].
  • Use voice follow if chat makes you go off script; it waits until you come back to the words.

Questions

Can I use a teleprompter in OBS?

Yes. Copy Reframely's output link and add it to OBS as a Browser source. It scrolls with your prompter and can have a transparent, green, blue or black background.

How do I read a script while streaming without viewers seeing it?

Keep the script in its own window or on another monitor, and have OBS capture only specific windows or your camera instead of the whole display.

Will the OBS source fall out of sync?

It follows the prompter by word position and keeps scrolling at your speed between updates, so it stays within a fraction of a second over a direct connection.

Does it work with Streamlabs or vMix?

Any app that can add a web page as a source can show the output link.
