A teleprompter on a second screen
Operators like to drive the script from a laptop while the talent reads from another screen. Reframely's output view mirrors your prompter on any other monitor, tablet or computer and keeps them in step.
Step by step: send the prompter to OBS or a second screen
- Open the output. In Display, choose Second screen / OBS. It opens a clean window with just the words, no buttons.
- Add it in OBS. Add the output link as a Browser Source, or drag the window to a monitor on your rig. It follows the prompter word for word.
Common setups
| Setup | How |
|---|---|
| Laptop drives a monitor under glass | Open the output in a new window, move it to the monitor, tick Mirror, double-click for full screen |
| Confidence monitor on a stage or at a lectern | Open the output link on the monitor's computer or a tablet, unmirrored, large text |
| Operator scrolls, presenter reads elsewhere | Run the prompter on the operator's laptop and the output on the presenter's screen; add a phone remote if you like |
| Streaming overlay | Add the output link to OBS as a browser source; see the OBS guide |
Set it up
- Open Reframely on the computer that will run the script and tap Open prompter.
- Open the Display menu or the pairing sheet and choose Second screen or OBS.
- Pick the text size and colors for the other screen, and tick Mirror if it sits under teleprompter glass.
- Tap Open in a new window, drag the window to the second monitor and double-click it for full screen. For another device, tap Copy link and open the link there instead.
In the same browser, the windows talk to each other directly. On another device, they connect the same way the phone remote does: directly when the network allows, otherwise through encrypted relays.
The output is read-only. It can't change the script or the speed, so it's safe to leave on a shared screen. You can add several outputs to one prompter.
Why it stays in sync
A big monitor and a laptop break lines in different places, so matching by percentage drifts. The output tracks which word is on the reading line instead, and scrolls at your words-per-minute setting between updates.
Text size on each screen
The output keeps its own text size, colors and mirror setting. A 1080p browser source, a 24-inch prompter monitor and a tablet can each show the script at the size that suits them, and still sit on the same words: the output follows the prompter by word, not by scroll position.
Which device should run the prompter?
Run the prompter on the device that has the controls: the operator's laptop, or the tablet you hold. Put the output on screens that only need to show the words. If the person reading also controls the scroll, give them a phone remote or clicker and keep the laptop out of their way.
No internet in the venue?
An output window on the same computer doesn't need a network at all. For an output on another device, connect both to the same Wi-Fi or a phone hotspot; they link directly when the network allows.
Questions
Can I use a teleprompter on two monitors?
Yes. Run Reframely on one screen and open its output view on the other; the output follows play, pause, speed and jumps.
Can the second screen be mirrored and the first not?
Yes. Mirroring is set separately for the output, so the operator reads normally while the glass monitor shows mirrored text.
Does the second screen need its own internet connection?
Not if it's a window in the same browser. Another device needs internet to connect, like the phone remote.
